As part of his course, he completed an internship at the Dutch Ministry of Transport, during which he advised on information exchange in inland navigation. This was the start of a career in logistics and IT. Following this internship, Marten started work at Port Infolink in 2003, where he began in the Product Development department – at first as project support, later as project manager. In this role, he was responsible for several projects which resulted in various services for barge operators, port authorities, terminals, forwarders, etc. He was also involved in business development and responsible for the European R&D projects in which the organization was involved.
In 2009, Port Infolink merged with Portnet to form Portbase. Marten stayed on board as Strategy & Business Consultant. In his vision, Portbase and its community work together to establish a landing place for global supply chains – port as a platform.
